Connect to Yeap DNS and CDN

Point your domain's nameservers to Yeap DNS or a third-party provider, confirm the NS check, and connect to Yeap CDN.

Once a domain is registered, a DNS service has to answer queries for it. This guide shows how to connect a domain you registered or transferred into Yeap Cloud to Yeap DNS, how to use a third-party DNS provider instead, and how to connect the domain to Yeap CDN.

Choose a DNS service

OptionBest for
Yeap DNSManaging the domain, DNS records and CDN in one console, plus Yeap DNS features such as DNSSEC
Third-party DNSYou keep many records at another DNS provider and don't want to move them yet

Both options work with Yeap CDN. See "Connect to Yeap CDN" below for the difference.

Case 1: you left the nameservers empty at registration

If you left Nameservers empty when registering, once registration succeeds the platform automatically:

  1. Creates a free DNS zone for the domain under DNS → Zones (DNS管理 → 区域管理). Its description says it was created automatically at registration (域名注册自动创建).
  2. Updates the domain's nameservers at the registrar to the Yeap DNS nameservers assigned to that zone.

You don't need to do anything else. Open the zone and add your records.

Note

A zone created automatically with a domain is tied to the domain's registration. If the domain expires, the zone stops answering queries, and it is deleted when the domain reaches pending delete. Renew on time.

Case 2: switch an existing domain to Yeap DNS

If you entered other nameservers at registration, or you transferred the domain in, switch it to Yeap DNS as follows.

Step 1: Create a DNS zone

  1. Go to DNS → Zones (DNS管理 → 区域管理) and click Create zone (创建区域).
  2. Enter the domain, for example example.com, as the Zone name (区域名称).
  3. Choose a DNS plan. Free plans activate immediately. Paid plans activate after the invoice is paid.
  4. When the zone is created, the page shows the Nameserver list (Nameserver 列表): the nameservers assigned to this zone. Click Copy (复制) to note them down.

You can see these values again later in the Name servers (NS) (名称服务器 (NS)) card at the top of the zone's Records (记录) page.

Tip

Before you switch nameservers, recreate all your existing records in the new zone. This matters most for website A/AAAA/CNAME records and mail MX and TXT records, so services keep working during the switch. See Zones and records.

Step 2: Change the domain's nameservers

  1. Go to Domain Registration → My Domains and open the domain's detail page.
  2. Under Overview → Nameservers (概览 → 域名服务器), remove the old nameservers and enter each Yeap DNS nameserver assigned to the zone, one per line.
  3. Click Update NS (更新NS).

Enter every nameserver the console shows, and remove all nameservers from other providers. Mixing nameservers from different providers gives inconsistent answers.

Note

Always use the Yeap DNS nameservers the console assigns to each zone. Different zones may be assigned different nameservers, so don't copy them from another domain or from someone else.

Step 3: Wait and confirm

The registry normally applies the change quickly once it reaches the registrar. Recursive DNS caches around the world still need time to refresh, usually anywhere from a few minutes to 48 hours.

In the Zones list, a zone whose nameservers don't point to Yeap DNS yet shows a Pending (待接入) tag:

  • The platform checks these zones automatically at regular intervals. The Pending tag clears once the nameservers point to Yeap DNS.
  • Click Check NS (检查NS) next to the zone to check immediately. If the change hasn't taken effect yet, a dialog lists the Current NS (当前NS, what public DNS returns now) and the nameservers it should point to (应该指向, the ones assigned in the console) so you can compare them.

You can also check from the command line:

bash
# Nameservers currently in effect for the domain
dig NS example.com +short

# Ask the registry's authoritative servers directly (.com shown), bypassing caches
dig NS example.com @a.gtld-servers.net +norecurse
Note

The console treats a zone as connected once at least one nameserver points to Yeap DNS. Still replace all of them, so every resolver gets the same answers.

Case 3: use a third-party DNS provider

To keep using another DNS provider:

  1. Add the domain at the third-party provider and get the nameservers it assigns.
  2. In Yeap Cloud, enter those nameservers under My Domains → detail page → Overview → Nameservers and click Update NS.
  3. Manage all DNS records at the third-party provider from then on.

If a Yeap DNS zone was created automatically for the domain at registration, it stops being used once the nameservers point elsewhere. You can keep it as a fallback or delete it under Zones.

Connect to Yeap CDN

When you add a site under CDN → Domains (CDN管理 → 域名管理), the wizard asks you to choose an access method:

  • DNS access: choose this if the domain uses Yeap DNS. The wizard prepares the DNS configuration the site needs.
  • CNAME access: choose this if the domain uses a third-party DNS provider, then add the CNAME record the wizard gives you at that provider. Use the CNAME target exactly as the console shows it.

See Add a site for the full steps.

Troubleshooting

Updating nameservers fails You can only change nameservers on an active domain. Check that the nameserver hostnames are spelled correctly and resolve. Some extensions require the nameservers to be working already, or require at least two.

The zone stays Pending Run dig NS yourdomain +short to see what public DNS returns. If it still shows the old values, check on the domain detail page that the nameservers were saved and entered correctly. If nothing has changed after 48 hours, contact support.

Using your own nameservers (such as ns1.example.com) First add IP addresses for those hostnames on the Glue records (胶水记录) tab of the domain detail page, then set them as the domain's nameservers.
