Hash Generator: MD5, SHA-1, SHA-256, SHA-512
Calculate MD5, SHA-1, SHA-256, SHA-384 and SHA-512 hashes of text or a file to verify downloads and compare data. Everything is computed in your browser.
Everything runs in your browser; nothing is sent to a server.
How it works
Choosing a hash
Checksums
Compare the SHA-256 of a downloaded file with the one the publisher lists to make sure it arrived intact and unmodified.
MD5 and SHA-1 are broken
Collisions can be created for both, so use them only for compatibility checks, never for security.
Not for passwords
Plain hashes are too fast for storing passwords. Use bcrypt, scrypt or Argon2 instead.
FAQ
Frequently asked questions
Is my file uploaded?
No. The file is read and hashed in your browser and never leaves your device.
Why do I get a different hash than another tool?
Check for a trailing newline or different text encoding. Hashes change completely with any change to the input.
