Encode text to Base64 or decode Base64 back to text, with full UTF-8 support and an option for URL-safe Base64. Type in either box.
Everything runs in your browser; nothing is sent to a server.
How it works
About Base64
What it is for
Base64 turns bytes into plain ASCII so they can travel through systems built for text: email attachments, data URLs, HTTP Basic auth and JSON.
URL-safe Base64
Base64URL replaces + and / with - and _ and drops the = padding, so the result can be used in URLs and file names. JWTs use it.
Not encryption
Base64 only changes the representation. Anyone can decode it, so never use it to hide passwords or keys.
FAQ
Frequently asked questions
Why is the encoded text longer?
Base64 uses 4 characters for every 3 bytes, so the output is about a third larger than the input.
