Domains, mailboxes, aliases and forwarding

Add a mail domain and set up DNS, create mailboxes, and use aliases to forward mail to one or more addresses.

This page walks through setting up Domain Mailbox from scratch: add a domain and pay for it, set up DNS, create mailboxes, and use aliases to forward mail to other addresses.

Step 1: Add a mail domain

  1. Open 域名邮箱 → 我的域名 (Domain Mailbox → My Domains, /webmail/domains) and click Add Domain in the top-right corner.
  2. The setup wizard opens. Work through 选地区 → 选套餐 → 配置 → 确认 (region → plan → configure → confirm).
  3. In the configure step, enter the part of the address after the @ in 邮箱域名 (mail domain). For example, to use sales@example.com, enter example.com.
  4. In the confirm step, check the product, region, plan and billing cycle, click 加入购物车 (Add to cart), and pay at checkout.

After payment the domain shows as Active in My Domains. An unpaid domain shows as Pending and can't send or receive mail.

Note

An account can have at most 3 unpaid (Pending) mail domains. Pay for or delete a pending domain before you add another.

For each domain, the list shows its plan, mailboxes (used/limit), storage usage and the node it's on. To change plans, click the link next to the plan column to open the plans page.

Plan limits

At the time of writing, each domain gets these limits. The plans page has the current values.

PlanMailboxesAliasesTotal domain storage
Personal (个人版)5105 GB
Business (企业版)5010050 GB
Ultimate (旗舰版)UnlimitedUnlimited500 GB

The plans page also lists daily sending and attachment size limits. Features marked "即将推出" (coming soon) aren't available yet.

Step 2: Set up DNS

  1. In the My Domains list, click the DNS Settings button on the domain's row.

  2. The dialog lists the records to add, with their Type, Purpose, Name, Value and Status (verified or not):

    PurposeTypeNameValue format
MX (inbound mail)MXexample.comthe mail server hostname shown in the console, priority 10
    SPFTXTexample.comv=spf1 mx a:<mail server hostname> -all
    DKIMTXT<selector>._domainkey.example.comv=DKIM1; k=rsa; p=<public key>
    DMARCTXT_dmarc.example.comv=DMARC1; p=quarantine; rua=mailto:dmarc@example.com
  3. Add these records at your DNS provider, using the exact values shown in the console.

  4. Once the records are live, go back to the dialog and click Verify DNS. When all four record types pass, the dialog shows DNS Fully Verified.

If the domain's DNS is hosted in Yeap Cloud DNS, click Auto DNS in the dialog. After you approve on the authorization page, the required records are written for you, and any records that already exist are skipped.

Keep in mind:

  • Only one SPF record per domain. If the domain already has a v=spf1 record (for example for another sending service), add mx a:<mail server hostname> to that record instead of creating a second one.
  • DMARC reports go to dmarc@<your domain>. If you want to receive them, create that mailbox, or make it an alias that forwards to an existing mailbox.
  • Regenerating DKIM: the 重新生成 DKIM (Regenerate DKIM) button in the dialog creates a new key. Afterwards you must update the DKIM record in DNS with the new value, or the DKIM signatures on outgoing mail will fail verification. Only regenerate the key when you need to.
  • Changing the MX records moves the domain's inbound mail to Domain Mailbox. If you're migrating from another mail service, create all the mailboxes first and change MX last.

Step 3: Create mailboxes

  1. Open 域名邮箱 → 邮箱用户 (Mail Users, /webmail/users) and choose the domain in Select Domain at the top. You can also click Manage Users in the My Domains list to go straight there.
  2. Click Add User in the top-right corner and fill in:
    • Username: the part before the @. The full address [username]@example.com appears below the field. It must start with a letter or digit and can contain only letters, digits, ., _ and -.
    • Password: the mailbox login password.
    • Display Name (optional): the sender name people see.
    • Storage Quota (GB) (optional): the mailbox's storage quota, from 0.1 to 100 GB. If you leave it empty, the quota is 1 GB. The quotas of all mailboxes together can't exceed the domain's remaining storage.
    • Active: whether the mailbox is enabled.
  3. Click Save.

When you reach your plan's mailbox limit, you can't add more until you upgrade.

Manage existing mailboxes

The list shows Email, Display Name, Storage (used/quota) and Messages. Each row has these actions:

  • Edit: change the display name or storage quota, or use the Active / Inactive switch to disable the mailbox. A disabled mailbox can't sign in.
  • Reset Password: enter a New Password and Confirm Password (at least 6 characters).
  • Open Webmail: open this mailbox in Webmail without entering its password.
  • Delete: after you confirm Delete this user?, the mailbox and all its mail are deleted permanently and can't be recovered.

Step 4: Forward mail with aliases

An alias is an address without its own mailbox. Mail sent to it is forwarded to one or more destination addresses. Common uses:

  • Forward sales@example.com to several people on the sales team.
  • Forward info@example.com to an existing mailbox, so you can publish the address without creating a separate account.
  • Forward an address to an external mailbox, such as a personal Gmail account.

To create an alias:

  1. Open 域名邮箱 → 邮件别名 (Aliases, /webmail/aliases) and choose the domain.
  2. Click 添加别名 (Add alias) and fill in:
    • 别名地址 (源) (alias address, source): the part before the @, for example sales. The full address is sales@example.com and must belong to the selected domain.
    • 转发至 (目标邮箱) (forward to, destination): one or more full email addresses, separated by commas, for example alice@example.com, bob@example.com. Destinations can be mailboxes on this domain or external addresses.
  3. Click 保存 (Save).

If the alias address already exists, you get a conflict error. You can't edit an alias after creating it. To change its destinations, delete it and create it again. Once you delete an alias, mail sent to that address is no longer forwarded. When you reach your plan's alias limit, a notice appears at the top of the page.

Tip

Some receivers may treat forwarded mail as suspicious because of how SPF checks work. Forward important mail to mailboxes on your own domain where you can.

Note

Use 邮件别名 (Aliases) in the console to forward mail. The Forwarding tab in Webmail settings doesn't take effect yet, so don't rely on it to forward mail.

Delete a domain

In the My Domains list, click Delete Domain on the domain's row and confirm. The domain and all its mailboxes are deleted and can't be recovered. Export any mail you want to keep first.
