Connect to a cloud server

Log in over SSH, Remote Desktop, the VNC console or serial terminal, and manage passwords and hostname.

Once an instance is ready (status 运行中, Running), you can log in over SSH or Windows Remote Desktop, or use the VNC console and terminal built into the console.

Find your login details

  1. Go to 云服务器 > 我的实例 (Cloud Servers > My Instances).
  2. Click the 管理 (Manage, gear icon) button on the instance's row to open its detail page.
  3. In the IP 地址 (IP addresses) card, find the address tagged 主 (Primary). This is the instance's main public IP.
  4. In the 基础信息 (Basic info) card, find 初始密码 (Initial password) and click the copy icon.

The login username depends on the image: root for most Linux images and Administrator for Windows images. A few images use their own default user; if root does not work, use that image's default username.

Connect over SSH (Linux)

From a terminal on your computer (replace 203.0.113.10 with your instance's IP):

bash
ssh root@203.0.113.10

Type yes to accept the host fingerprint on first connection, then paste the 初始密码.

Tip

After logging in, set up SSH key authentication and disable password login to reduce the risk of brute-force attacks:

bash
# Generate a key locally and copy it to the instance
ssh-keygen -t ed25519
ssh-copy-id root@203.0.113.10

Connect with Remote Desktop (Windows)

  1. On Windows, open Remote Desktop Connection (mstsc). On macOS, use Microsoft Remote Desktop / Windows App.
  2. Enter the instance IP as the computer and Administrator as the username.
  3. Log in with the 初始密码.

Windows images take longer to finish their first boot. If you cannot connect yet, open the VNC console to watch the boot progress.

Use the VNC console

The VNC console is the instance's "monitor". Even if the network is misconfigured and SSH is unreachable, you can still see the screen and log in.

  1. Click VNC at the top of the instance detail page (or click the 控制台 (Console) icon in the 我的实例 list).
  2. A VNC window opens in your browser and authenticates automatically.
  3. Log in inside the window with the instance's username and password.

The VNC 信息 (VNC info) card shows the VNC 端口 (port) and 密码 (password). To change the VNC password:

  1. Click the edit icon next to 密码 to open 修改 VNC 密码 (Change VNC password).
  2. Enter a new password or click 生成随机密码 (Generate random password). It must be 6–32 characters with no spaces or non-ASCII characters.
  3. Click OK.
Note

By convention in the VNC protocol, usually only the first 8 characters of the password are checked, so an 8-character password is recommended.

Use the terminal (serial console)

Click 终端 (Terminal) at the top of the detail page to open the instance's serial console in your browser. It does not depend on the instance's network, which makes it useful for troubleshooting when SSH is unavailable.

  • If the screen is blank, press Enter once to bring up the login prompt.
  • The serial console needs the operating system to offer a login on the serial port. If nothing ever appears, use the VNC console instead.

Change the root / Administrator password

  1. In 基础信息, click the edit icon next to 初始密码 to open 修改密码 (Change password).
  2. Enter a new password or click 生成随机密码. It must be 8–64 characters with no spaces or non-ASCII characters.
  3. Click OK.
Warning

The console changes the password through the QEMU Guest Agent inside the instance, so the instance must be powered on and the agent must be running. If you have removed or disabled the agent, the change will not take effect; log in through VNC and change the password inside the OS instead. Do not use weak passwords.

Change the hostname

  1. In 基础信息, click the edit icon next to 主机名 (Hostname) to open 修改主机名 (Change hostname).
  2. Enter the new hostname (1–64 characters, no spaces or non-ASCII characters) and click OK.
Warning

To apply the new hostname, the system forcibly powers off and restarts the instance. Running services are interrupted and unsaved data may be lost. Do this during a quiet period.

Restart the instance

Open the 电源操作 (Power) menu at the top of the detail page and choose 软重启 (Soft reboot). After you confirm, the instance restarts gracefully.

One operation at a time

Password changes, reboots, reinstalls, snapshots and similar operations go into the instance's task queue and run one after another. If you see 队列正在执行中无法继续操作 (A queued task is still running), the previous operation has not finished yet. Try again shortly.

Using the API

The endpoints used by the console can also be called directly. Requests must carry the token you receive when you sign in (Authorization: Bearer <token>).

Get instance details (IP addresses, image, disks and more):

bash
curl -H "Authorization: Bearer $TOKEN" \
  https://api.yeap.cloud/api/evm/user/vms/<instance-id>

Reboot an instance:

bash
curl -X POST -H "Authorization: Bearer $TOKEN" \
  -H "Content-Type: application/json" \
  -d '{"base":"reboot"}' \
  https://api.yeap.cloud/api/evm/user/vms/<instance-id>/power

Responses are JSON. status is success when the operation has been queued; on error, msg gives the reason.
