Tiered cache
Edge misses fetch from a regional middle tier first, reducing origin load. Coming soon.
Tiered cache (an origin shield layer) makes an edge node that misses the cache fetch from a regional middle-tier node first. Only the middle tier contacts your origin, so the origin receives fewer requests.
Current status
Coming soon. All sites are currently served by edge nodes that fetch directly from the origin. The Tiered cache switch in the console is disabled and needs no setup.
How to turn it on (once available)
- Open the site and go to the Network (网络) tab.
- Under Origin routing (回源路由), turn on Tiered cache (二级缓存).
- Click Save settings (保存设置). The change takes effect within a few minutes.
Best for large downloads, video and high-traffic sites. Dynamic API sites do not need it.
How to tell it is working
- Requests from the CDN to your origin drop noticeably in your origin access logs.
- Purge cache clears both the edge and the middle tier.
